Drawstring pouch

Hello friends, trust this post finds you all good.It has been a long break from blogging.I sewed  a cute little draw string pouch, a month back.(So lazy to post)  I sewed it from a left over fabric after stitching a bag.The bag is not yet completed. :-(
I have used silk cotton fabric. To decorate, I did  embroidery with yellow thread, added beads and gloden ribbon for the draw string.

This is how it looks when its filled with stuff.

Hope you liked it.

My cup cake baking lesson

I wanted to try cup cake ......My goal of reducing  weight stopped me from baking. My husband's birthday is nearing and I wanted to make something special for him. Thought of testing  the cup cake recepie which I had written in a paper long back. I don't remember from where I got the recepie. It was for 14 to 16 cup cakes.Often I was not  sucessfull in baking,  I have wasted a lot.So decided  to make  half of it. I reduced all the ingredients to half so that I will get 6-8 cup cakes.
Yesterday afternoon I thought of doing my experiment.I measured all the ingredients to half the quantity.... and followed the recepies. The recpie was with all purpose flour, but I used cake mix instead of it.Finally, when I mixed everything, my intution was saying me that the batter is too thin for the cake. Now, I thought this cake is not going to turn into a cake :(
I thought why not to add more of the cake mixture to make the batter thick.I did add  the remaining half of the cake mixture that was said for 16 cup cakes. The batter was thick but still I wanted it to be more thick, again I dusted some cake mixture.
Now it was upto my expectation.I added some raisins which the recpie didn't mention. Now its ready to pour into the beautiful  papercup, that was lying down in my kitchen drawer for a long time.I was attracted by the prints on the papercup while shopping and grabbed it immediately. The time has come for its use.....

Filled  the papercup with two-third of the batter. While the cup cake was baking, I kept my finger crossed that it should turn out well. I did the tooth pick test to check whether it was done? It didn't stick so its cooked .The cupcake  looked edible.

At last the result of my experiment came when I tasted.

Oh ! I passed in cupcake test!!!!!!!!!!!! The taste was amazing! Didn't have the patience to do the icing.
Previously I had tried several cakes, a few turned out well and many were not cake at all.My husband the guiena pig with whom I do all my experiments, told  not to try any more cakes but I kept trying. So finally, I learnt that baking also doesn't need exact measurement.

Paneer butter masala

Paneer butter masala, this post was in my draft for a long time.Couple of days back,  I visited Aparna's blog http://www.mydiversekitchen.com/ and read the kashmiri cusine, I was inspired to post my panneer dish.Thank you Aprana!
This dish, I tried after watching a cookery show in the TV.
Recently, I am trying different varieties of paneer recepies after becoming aware of  the benefits of paneer.
I have modified the orginal dish a little bit for reducing the calories.

Ingredients
Paneer-5-7 cubes
Ghee -2 tsps
Chopped Onion(big)-1
Tomato chopped -1cup
Green chillies -2(according to taste)
Garlic-3 cloves
Fennel seeds-1tsp
Jeera-1tsp
Chilli powder-1tsp
Jeera powder-1tsp
Garam masala powder-1/4tsp
Corriander powder-1 1/2tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Salt-to taste
Corriander leaves-to garnish

Prepration

If you have stored the paneer in freezer, take the paneer and soak it in luke warm water for half an hour.Pour 1tsp of  ghee in a hot pan and fry fennels seeds .Add onion and saute it until its transparent. After the onions are cooked .Saute the garlic and green chillies also.Allow this to cool and grind in a blender.

                                                                          Procedure
Add 1tsp of ghee in a pan and add jeera. When it splutter add  the chopped tomatoe and saute until its cooked, then pour the masala that you have grinded.
Now its the time to add all the powders and salt.
Add water and allow it to boil.Once the bubble starts to add the paneer.
Mix well and cook for a while.Check if salt and other spices are according to your taste.
Garnish it with corriander leaves and serve with love.
This dish goes well with chapathi and poori.

Note
You can add more amount of ghee or butter, I have reduced it.
Also cinnamon, cloves and cardomam can be added along with Jeera while seasoning.
If you want the dish to appear red in color, use red chillies instead of green chilles.
Cashew nut was fried along with onion and grinded in the orginal dish.

Yellow Yellow happy Fellow....

Couple of days back I was cooking Moorukuzhambhu in my Kitchen.

In the end of the preparation, yellow color of the dish was so beautiful!

Thought of taking a shot in my camera.

Here it goes.............

I think its the black color rim of the pan that adds beauty to the yellow color of the dish.

Crochet journey

Before I started blogging, I spent some time learning crochet.
As beginner, I was practicing  the types of stitches.I don't want to waste that piece.
Some how I converted it into mobile pouch.

I was trying to practice with double colours of wool, thats how green color came at the bottom.
If you ask what is the pattern?
No idea.I practiced single crochet, double crochet and half double crochet.
Two kids(girl & boy) from my neighbourhood visit my house frequently. The girl child was attracted by this pouch and she asked for it.
So, now she possess this pouch and she uses it as little hand bag.
Have a good day!

Today, I decided to post this curry, since it has been a long time that I have not posted any recepies. This recipe is easy to cook.I wanted to try potatoes fry differently and was thinking of some healthy options. So thought of adding methi leaves to the usual potatoe fry that I make.

Ingredients

  1. Potatoes-2( If its big in size)
  2. Methi leaves-1 cup
  3. Mustard-1 tsp
  4. Split Urd dhal-1/2 tsp
  5. Jeera-1 tsp
  6. Hing- a pinch
  7. Onion-1( cut into small pieces)
  8. Salt- to taste
  9. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
  10. Chilli powder-1 tsp
  11. Pepper powder-1/2tsp
Method:
Wash and boil the potatoes.
Peel the skin of the potatoes and cut into cubes.
Wash the methi leaves and drain the water.
Place a frying pan on the stove and add oil.
Once the oil is hot do the seasoning with  the  mustard, urad dhal, jeera and hing.Add the onion and saute until its golden brown.
Now add the methi leaves, turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt.
Cover and keep for few minutes until the methi leaves are cooked. No need to add water for cooking the leaves.
Remove the lid and saute until the water in the pan evaporates.
Add the potatoes and mix it well.

Visitor to our garden

The Garden back home has many visitors starting from beautiful butterflies to poisonous snakes.During my stay at home, my brother captured the picture of a special and new visitor to our garden.
Here is the visitor-Indian wood pecker who visits our garden frequently.

Its searching for its food.

               Picked its food

Posed for the picture.
Actually,the bird noticed us.

          Turned back to escape.
Its very difficult to take  picture of birds, once they come to know that you are watching them they escape.
